Course objectives
The main objective of the course is present general knowledge about UMTS network. The training gathers main features of the network node with focus on radio access network. The course provides also information about WCDMA, channel concept, handovers and signalling information.
Course consists of following subjects:

  • UMTS targets
  • UMTS architecture
  • UMTS services
  • Radio interface
  • UTRAN channels
  • UMTS handover types
  • UMTS security mechanisms
  • UMTS signalling: protocols and procedures overview
  • HSPA – overview

Target audience
Course is more detailed in comprehension with the “Start with UMTS” course so it is intended for those who possess general knowledge about GSM/UMTS systems. Course will be also beneficial for those who want to refresh their knowledge and go deeper into details of 3G systems.

Prerequisites
“GSM overview” or “Start with UMTS” course is required to be accomplished before participating the “UMTS – 3G system” or general knowledge about GSM/UMTS systems, especially network architecture and nodes functionalities is necessary.
