Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to highlight the HSPA concept as the way of UMTS evolution. It is a good choice for all of those who want to acquire a general view of the HSPA. The course starts with some repetition of the traditional R99 UMTS radio features and compares them with proposed features and assumptions of HSPA (R5 & R6). The following parts cover the HSPA and some of the HSPA+ (R7 and following) main concepts.
Course consists of the following subjects:

  • Packet access R99 and R5 for HSDPA – High Speed Downlink Packet Access
  • Packet access R99 and R6 for HSUPA – High Speed Uplink Packet Access
  • Retransmission and error correction – HARQ
  • QPSK/QAM modulation
  • HSPA+
  • Multiple Input Multiple Output
  • New modulation 64QAM

Target audience
Course is intended for participants with basic knowledge of the operation 3G networks who want to learn about foundation for the packet access transmission.

General knowledge of telecommunication networks and WCDMA is highly recommended. Course to be taken before this one : “Start with UMTS”
