HSPA/HSPA+ in details

Course objectives
The main objective of the course is in-depth discussion of the HSPA/HSPA+ as the way of UMTS evolution. The course is composed of three main chapters presenting HSDPA, HSUPA and HSPA+ concepts. Each of the part is a detailed presentation of the features and ideas of the HSPA and HSPA+. The course begins with small intro with refreshment of main RNC and Node B functions, Uu L2 protocols (MAC, RLC) and power control mechanisms for UTRAN network. Course consists of the following subjects:

  • Packet access R99 and R5 for HSDPA
  • Packet access R99 and R6 for HSUPA
  • Retransmission and error correction – HARQ
  • QPSK/QAM modulation
  • HSDPA Channels
  • HSUPA Channels
  • Resources management
  • HSPA+
  • Multiple Input Multiple Output
  • New modulation 64QAM
  • Voice over HSPA

Target audience
Course is intended for the engineers who are to work with HSPA/HSPA+ radio and require detailed knowledge about the features. Course will be also beneficial for those who want to refresh their knowledge.

Knowledge of basic telecommunication networks, architecture and operation of 3G network is highly recommended. Courses to be taken before this one : “UMTS – between 2G and 4G”
