Ericpol presents awards to the winners of the “Maths is My Passion” competition

On 12 March, at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Łódź, a ceremonial Gala was held which brought to a close the biggest maths competition for secondary school and high school students in the Łódź region. The competition is organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Public High School at the University of Łódź. Ericpol participates in this initiative as a strategic partner and the sponsor of prizes for the winners.
The most important purpose of this competition is to encourage interest in science among students, and specifically to popularize maths. This year, a record-breaking number of schools took part in the competition; 173 schools (111 secondary schools and 62 high schools) and over 2800 students in total participated in the mathematical tournament.
‘In our industry, skilful use and understanding of maths is particularly important. Owing to its format, the competition gives students an opportunity to learn maths through fun This is not just another traditional maths contest. All the problems are designed to be interesting and involve varying degrees of difficulty. And, what is the most precious thing about this competition is that everyone who likes maths and wants to get familiar with it from a slightly different angle may take part’, says Marek Gajowniczek, Ericpol’s Programme Director.
The organizers awarded the title of winner to high school students in ten different categories and to secondary school students in seven categories. The best of these received Cups from the Łódzkie Voivodeship and the Łódź Superintendent of schools as well as prizes funded by Ericpol, i.e. laptops, tablets, digital cameras, and calculators.
This year, for the first time, awards were also presented to the two best teachers whose students were highest placed in the competition.
The competition took place under the patronage of Jolanta Chełmińska, Łódzki Voivodeship, Witold Stępień, Marshall of the Łódzkie Voivodeship, and prof. dr hab. Włodzimierz Nykiel, Rector of the University of Łódź. The Łódź Chief Education Officer is also a co-organizer of the competition. That is why the winners are granted extra points in the enrolment process to high schools.
Ericpol is scheduled to support the “Maths is My Passion” initiative for several years, what is designed to guarantee the development and strong enthusiasm for this competition in the region.
