Ericpol in the Małopolska IT Cluster

19 July 2006

On July 18th, 2006 in the Library Hall of Collegium Maius at the Jagiellonian University, Ericpol Telecom CEO Marek Gajowniczek participated in the signing of an agreement to develop the Małopolska IT Cluster.

The purpose of the Cluster is to support the development of the IT industry and promote it as the primary business of Małopolska, which will be achieved through the cooperation of local enterprises, authorities, universities and businesses.

Among the guests invited to sign the agreement were representatives of local public authorities, such as marshal of Małopolska voivodeship Janusz Sepioł, chancellors of the largest universities in Małopolska, representatives of scientific institutes and IT companies operating in Małopolska – among them Ericpol Telecom.

One of the main goals of the project is to develop a modern IT environment for research, implementation and staff training by making use of the enormous potential and experience of the academic and business environment and local authorities, and thus to create new jobs in Małopolska.

‘It’s an exciting challenge to take part in the initiative’, says Marek Gajowniczek, ‘It’s the first event of this scope in Poland and a truly pioneering work. The mutual effort of the children and grandchildren of those who built Nowa Huta – the monument to the heavy industry of the past epoch – might result in a new Cracow district whose foundation will be laid by a new generation of the information society. Of course, it’s only said figuratively, but I believe that the activities of the Cluster will provide the region and the city with dynamic and fruitful development. It is our company’s concern to cooperate with universities: we wish to work with the best graduates. Our requirements are very high, that’s why we’d like the transfer of practical knowledge between universities and companies to be faster and smoother’, believes Marek Gajowniczek.

The next meeting of the Cluster members takes place on July 20th, 2006 at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow.
